Welcome from the Convenors

We welcome you to the annual Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery SET 2–5 Conference which will be held from 25–31 March 2017 at the Pullman Hotel, Auckland, New Zealand.

This is the second year the Conference is being held in Auckland, and we are grateful for the suggestions made by delegates who attended the meeting in 2016 and have incorporated some of these into the 2017 programme.

For 2017, the Conference programme comprises five days of conference sessions (27–31 March) with an emphasis on small group teaching. The core topics of the curriculum covered are Hand and Upper Limb Surgery, Chest and Abdominal wall reconstruction and Breast Surgery.

There will be a Practice Exam (25 March for SET 4.2 and 5.1s) and we hope to also offer a Dissection Cadaver Workshop and will advise further details shortly. This would include access to prosections for those senior registrars to assist with their exam preparation.

In addition, a formal Welcome Reception and Conference Dinner will encourage important socialising and networking with your peers. Your local host trainees are also assisting with other optional social events.

All trainees are required to present a paper at the state or NZ national level for selection to present at the conference. The Emmett Prizes of $1,500 each may be awarded for the Best Research Presentation and also for the Best Clinical Presentation. We strongly encourage all delegates to attend this session with only those preparing for the Fellowship Examination being excused.

For the Best Research Presentation, registrars should submit a piece of original clinical research which provides analysis of formal research undertaken by the trainee related to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

For the Best Clinical Presentation, registrars must make a presentation related to any aspect of clinical practice including but not restricted to technique and analysis, new technique presentation review and analysis, morbidity/mortality data from clinical series, prospective clinical trials and retrospective reviews of case series.

None of this would be possible without the support of our sponsors who we warmly thank and we encourage you to interact with them during sponsored events and refreshment breaks to ensure ongoing support for these events. We would also like to thank our colleagues who have prepared both educational and enlightening sessions.

Whilst attendance at the conference is compulsory for all SET 2–5 Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Trainees in both Australia and New Zealand, we would like to thank you for your attendance and participation in this meeting.

We look forward to seeing you at the Conference and we hope that you will find the programme educational, energizing and, most importantly, enjoyable.
